A 15 year old female is fighting for her life after a 20 year old driver hit a father and his three children.
The accident occurred on west bound Interstate 96 and police say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
"We had a two car traffic crash that resulted in five people being injured," Michigan State Trooper Brian Oleksyk said. "The two vehicles involved, the driver of one appeared to be intoxicated."
The 20 year old driver was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries. Police say they received a call from an off-duty police officer about the vehicle swerving on the highway.
The officer called 911 from his cell phone to alert police to the scene.
"We sent out units to the scene but we were unable to get here in time before the traffic crash occurred," Oleksyk said.
The accident is still under investigation.
