A wrong turn is to blame for a dangerous chemical spill in Shiawassee County. It happened in Rush Township near Delaney and Juddville Roads just before 1 a.m.

A tanker truck, on its way to Ohio, was carrying highly flammable styrene monomer and tipped. The chemical is used in plastic and rubber manufacturing.

Five gallons spilled into a ditch, but none leaked into nearby rivers or streams says Lt. Michael Termeer with Shiawassee County Emergency Management & Homeland Security.

More than 20 people were evacuated from their homes for more than 12 hours. Cleanup was expected to be finished by early Friday evening.
