That may soon change, however. Both the teachers union and school board representatives say an election day negotiation session produced movement and a number of offers that crossed the table.
Teachers are looking for raises of one percent for last year retroactively... and two percent moving forward. The school board is on board with the one percent for last year... but is still looking to find one percent from here on out.
School Board President Bill Tennant says state funding has hurt the board's efforts to get the teachers what they want. He says they will not cut programs if they can help it... instead will look for ways to generate more revenue... like selling off property and some land.
An informational picket and public meeting are set for Monday night. The picket begins at six, the public meeting begins at seven.
The next mediation session is Tuesday. There is some optimism that a deal may be reached.
