The rain that hit Lansing only lasted a few minutes, but it was destructive.
Lightning struck one house on May Street, and it put a hole in the roof. And the roof of Lansing's Armstrong Pool collapsed after heavy rains drenched the building.
Road workers closed several streets - including the underpass on Saginaw Highway and the underpass near Potter Park Zoo. Some people abandoned their cars there, and others - near Michigan Avenue - waded into waist-high water to push their cars to safety.
Nearly 1,000 Lansing residents experienced a power disruption during the afternoon, but the Board of Water and Light said electricity would be restored by midnight.
