Wednesday marks the end of operations at General Motors' Lansing Metal Center, also known as Plant three. It and the Lansing Craft Centre were among the nine GM plants that made the closing list one year ago. The Craft Centre closed last March.
Some 1,200 people worked at the Metal Center, which produced metal parts for vehicles. The Personnel Director there tells News Ten none have been laid off. Most have been worked into other plants in or around Lansing and about 500 took advantage of early retirement packages.
By the end of December and through the New Year there will be about 15 employees who are working to shut the plant down completely and safely.
