The bomb exploded on the playground at Steele Elementary. The school was not in session because of the Labor Day holiday, but a mother had taken her children to play at the school.
While the children played, the mother picked up some stray trash, and police say she picked up a homemade bomb. The household chemicals inside the two-liter bottle exploded at the movement. A piece of the bottle struck her foot, cutting it.
Police swept the playground at Steele Elementary and other local schools. No other bombs were found, and school went on as usual Tuesday. School officials say they believe this is an isolated incident, but police are cautioning residents to be on the look out.
The remains of the bomb are being analyzed, and police say they have several leads in the case.
