Local church officials are trying to divert attention away from other Mormon churches. In the meantime, investigators are still looking into the cause of the church fire in East Lansing.
Members of the Lansing Michigan Stake, a church unit representing 3,300 Mormons in Mid-Michigan, is asking media not to comment on or bring attention to other congregations in the area. The group says it is doing this for security reasons and suspicion of arson.
Bruce Dale, president of the Lansing Michigan Stake, says the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in East Lansing has been a target of arson twice before in the last 10 years. He says he doesn't want anymore incidents of arson to happen to any Mormon buildings.
Dale says there will be additional surveillance at all 10 of their buildings and the homes of missionaries.
