State officials say Michigan's unemployment rate rose three-tenths of a percentage point in June, rising to 6.5 percent.
Barbara Bolin, director of the Michigan Department of Career Development, said Wednesday that Michigan's June jobless rate was 1.3 percentage point higher than the June 2001 jobless rate, a year ago.
The state's unemployment rate was higher than the 5.9 percent rate recorded nationally in June, she said.
But she said Michigan's job market has mirrored national trends.
