When it comes to applying for college, there are often more questions than answers.
"How am I going to pay for it? How do I complete college applications? How do I complete the FAFSA," said Nancy Miller of the Jackson Legacy College Access Program.
But soon students and parents will have the resources to answer those questions all in one place thanks to the Michigan College Access Network.
"Easy access for parents, for kids, simple and straight forward -- we're working on this with a team of people to make sure that it's accessible and that communities can use it to get kids to go to college, " said Gov. Granholm.
The program puts test prep materials, applications and student loan information all on one website as well as through community portals.
"We felt it was really important to not just have that web-based presence but to also have local community resource centers that could help people navigate the web portal and navigate the complexity of the system," Miller said.
State Superintendent Mike Flanagan says the network is necessary to increase college graduation rates to create the workforce to jump-start Michigan's economy.
"And we're one of these states where economic development is not going to come back if we don't have larger numbers of college graduates, it's just that simple, " Flanagan said.
The goal is to make college access not just left up to the university but a community initiative, the network will set up portals across the state where students can apply, plan and pay to go to colleges like Michigan State University.
"They can find out if there are things going on at Michigan State without necessarily having to refer to our website but they can find things a lot easier," said John Ambrose of MSU's office of admissions.
