The election results for most Mid-Michigan communities are in, but there was one race that had to be decided in an unconventional way on Friday afternoon.
The race for a spot on the Olivet City Council came down to a tie. So, both candidates incumbent Randy Smith and his challenger Karl Weaver had to draw pieces of paper out of a tin can to decide the winner.
Weaver chose the one that said, "you're elected" and was named the winner of the election. Both men received 69 votes on election night.
The Eaton County clerk and board of canvassers were on hand to conduct the tiebreaker.
