National Power Outage Darkens Michigan

The Federal Aviation Administration says the airport still has power and is remaining open.

Governor Granholm's office says the state has partially activated its Emergency Operations Center in East Lansing.

Officials from such agencies as the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Community Health are staffing the center.

The huge blackout hit U.S. cities from New York to Cleveland and north into Canada.

The outage darkened buildings and traffic lights from downtown Detroit to the state capital.

Employees closed the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. About 27,000 vehicles use the tunnel each day.

Michigan State Police have been in touch with all the state's utilities and the federal Homeland Security Administration in Washington.
