Lansing Police Recruit Minorities

The Lansing Police Department is kicking-off a new ad campaign aimed at area youth. The department hopes to attract more minority students to jobs with the force. New T.V. commercials will begin airing Wednesday. The spots feature a diverse group of officers encouraging kids to get information on jobs in law enforcement.
The campaign is being paid for with a $199,000 grant from the Justice Department. In addition to the ads, officers will be going into area schools to speak with kids starting in eighth grade. There are also recruitment posters and interactive cds. Officials say they want to let kids know what they need to become police officers, such as good grades and a good driving record.
Officials say a diverse police force better reflects the diverse Lansing community.
