A Lansing mother admits she played a role in the death of her two-year-old son. Thirty-one-year-old Cynthia Daniel entered a plea of guilty to involuntary manslaughter, and second degree child abuse.
Her son Jalyn died at his family's home on Govenburg Road in May of 2005.
After examining his body at the hospital, medical staff found various bruises and burn marks on the baby's body. Reports also show an imprint of an iron on his back and bottom. Police say Cynthia Daniel's former boyfriend Samuel Courtland is also connected to the toddler's death. Courtland has been charged with murder and first degree child abuse.
His trial begins Oct. 30. If convicted he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
