State agencies will have to hold off buying any extra supplies before the end of this fiscal year. That's because Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed an executive directive preventing the purchase of printing and supplies.
Most state departments have already cut back spending as a result of the current budget crisis.
The goal of the executive order is to stop all the large last-minute spending that occurs at the end of a fiscal year.
Any department that needs supplies or services before Oct. 1, 2003 must submit their request directly to the department of management and budget to be OK'd by the governor.
Services and supplies that are required by law or affect the health and safety of Michigan citizens will still be allowed.
