The primary election for the seat of Lansing Mayor has come to an end. Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides came out on top and both him and State Senator Virg Bernero slide through to the November general election.

Tons of supporters gathered at the mayor's campaign headquarters on Michigan Avenue Tuesday night. As election results rolled in, the scene turned to excitement and joy.

Benavides beat out runner Bernero by close to 2000 votes, about an 18-percent margin. The first leg of the mayor's race only saw 15-percent of Lansing voters show up to the polls.

Benavides took the time to thank all of his supporters and says his efforts now immediately shift to November, where the issues step to the forefront.

Benavides says this victory shows the confidence the city of Lansing has in his skills to lead the city.
