Protecting Sparty and E. Lansing

By some estimates for nearly six decades students have guarded the Michigan State Spartan statue known as “Sparty.” This year, however, both pride and the Big Ten football lead are at stake.

MSU is undefeated in the Big Ten Football season going into this weekend’s showdown with longtime nemeses, The University of Michigan.

As usual students guard Sparty, but this year’s Big Ten leading record could prompt more Michigan fans to assault the stoic statue with U of M’s signature colors of paint, maize and blue.

At the same time the city of E. Lansing is preparing for the jump in car and pedestrian traffic.

East Lansing police are increasing overall patrols before, during and after Saturday’s game.

Despite the game’s notoriety, police are preparing for the U of M game no differently than any other game.
