State Senator and mayoral candidate, Virg Bernero, held a press conference to ask current Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides to retract a TV ad campaign that references Bernero’s daughters.
The ad points out that Bernero’s children go to both Holt and the E. Lansing school districts as opposed to Lansing schools.
Bernero calls the ad unfair because the law allows for his family to make their school of choice and the choice was made far before he was running for mayor.
A Benavides spokesperson said they have no intention of withdrawing the ad.
Bernero’s wife currently works for the Lansing school district.
