Michigan's largest broadband cable provider, Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. has reportedly been subpoenaed by the RIAA. The Association is asking for subscriber records that would allow them to track down file-sharers.
The RIAA says millions of people download music illegally, breaking copyright laws, which costs the industry millions of dollars in lost revenues. Copyright laws state that penalties could range from $750 to $150,000.
Comcast has reportedly stated that it does not keep online activity information on its customers.
Several universities have also been subpoenaed. Michigan State University is not amongst them. But MSU says it does support copyright laws, and discourages students from illegal activity.
