Land to Run for Governor

By  |

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is running for governor in 2010.

The Republican from Byron Center in Kent County has been secretary of state since 2003. She can't run again in 2010 because of term limits.

On Thursday, she filed paperwork setting up an exploratory committee for the post. Land had said previously that she'd decide by late February if she'd run for governor.

Other likely GOP candidates include state Sen. Tom George and Attorney General Mike Cox. Other possibilities include Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, U.S. Reps. Pete Hoekstra, Mike Rogers and Candice Miller, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and businessman David Brandon.

Candidates will be testing the waters at the state GOP convention in Lansing Friday and Saturday.
