Faced with a gapping $900 million hole in the state budget a variety of plans are surfacing for filling in the gap. One idea is to shut down state governor for one week a month. Another is to freeze an income tax rollback slated for next year. And for sure there will be state service cuts as that remains the governor's first option.
Sen. Shirley Johnson who chairs the senate budget panel says it is not an off the wall idea to shutdown government for a time. She says that would get the people's attention.
Meanwhile the Senate minority leader Robert Emerson has called for legislation to stop the one tenth of one percent rollback in the income tax rate. That would save the state some $113 million. Emerson says there is not support for that yet, but he says if everything is on the table, this should be there, too.
