The Ionia County Sheriff says as many as 20 people had to be treated at the hospital after a car hit a school bus in Ionia County. Rescue crews treated an unknown number of others at the scene.
Witnesses say the impact of the crash sent the bus spinning 180 degrees before it rolled over on its side, this while about 50 students in elementary, middle, and high school grades rode inside. The bus driver and students quickly went to action, helping each other escape out emergency exits.
Investigators say they are still looking into what caused the driver of the car to run a stop sign before hitting the bus. They say it could have been foggy conditions or malfunctioning brakes.
