Americorps, the national service organization, is cutting funding to its volunteer programs and Mid-Michigan can not escape their budget crunch.

The Veteran's of Foreign Wars National Home in Eaton Rapids will be losing some of its staff. Americorps cuts will force most of its 17 volunteers to look for work elsewhere.

VFW officials say Americorps cut 80-percent to 85-percent of its funding in Michigan. The cuts will mean the loss of the National Home's mentoring program. The home serves about 127 single parent families and children.

The VFW officials say they will lean on other organizations and local school districts for help. Volunteers will stay through mid-August.
