Power Line Safety

Electricity experts are reminding people to stand clear of downed power lines and to call emergency officials immediately if one goes down in their yard.

They advise people to always assume a power line is energized and warn that a power line can electrify other objects surrounding it, especially objects within ten feet. Touching those objects could result in electrocution and death.

Authorities say tall trees and falling branches are the most common cause of knocking down lines, and it's important for residents to trim their trees periodically to avoid disaster.
