The GMC Acadia is an eight-seat, crossover SUV.
Workers at the Delta plant will build it alongside the Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook. They say it marries the power GMC trucks are known for with the fuel efficiency and luxury of the crossover vehicles.
"This is our entry in the crossover segment," says Craig Bierley, GMC Product director, "and it’s gonna’ attract customers that we haven't before, because it has things like great fuel economy, the ride, [and] lower step-in height.”
Lansing Delta Township reached another landmark this week with over 2,200 employees. At full staff, they will have more than 3,000.
Full-scale production on the Acadia and the Outlook begins in November.
The Enclave will not be made until Spring, 2007.
