Safer Construction Zone

A busy construction zone may actually be safer these days thanks to some reconfiguring the Michigan Department of Transportation has done.

On the U.S. 127 project near East Lansing, orange barrels have been shifted to make for better traffic flow and more signs have been added to warn drivers what lanes they should be in.

Lansing Township Police Chief Kay Hoffman says the changes have made a big difference. Recently, her officers have only had to respond to two accidents. That's down from more than one dozen just in the first two weeks of August.

Due to the holiday weekend, construction along U.S. 127 near East Lansing will be halted around 3 p.m. Friday making it easier to get around for the first MSU home football game as well.
