Schools' Report Card

School hasn't even started and some grades are already in. The state's list of districts that made adequate yearly progress is out, and as always, it's a mixed bag.

163 improved over two years to get them off the federal sanctions list. But 544 schools did not make AYP, which is more than last year.

The state says it's because of two changes in the way these grades were figured. While it's no cause for alarm, they encourage parents to find out what's the root of a bad score for their child's school.
