The National Do Not Call List was launched today by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Those registering on the list are protected from telemarketing calls, though there are some exclusions and problems with the national rollout.
Michigan residents will not be able to register for the list by phone until July 8, but the
Web site encountered problems.
An FTC official said that the Internet traffic on the registration sight was so heavy it clogged the system.
To accommodate the demand the Federal Commission had to implement additional servers.
But once registered for the sight consumers need to be aware that some businesses are excluded from list violations.
Charities, political solicitations, survey calls as well as any business a consumer has purchased a product or services from in the last 18 months are all exempt from the list.
