The 2006 Great Lakes Folk Festival ended Sunday evening with organizers pleased at the turnout. According to spokeswoman Lora Helou, crowds far exceeded the 80,000 they expected to attend.
"I think that's something. That we really take pride in our area. That we have a high quality event that people build some of their summertime around."
The festival was in its 5th year on the streets of downtown East Lansing. And it provided a free opportunity for people to learn about different customs from around the world through things like food and music.
"What we really hope is that people gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the contributions of many other cultures in music and hand made goods and the way we play."
