Democratic Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel says he's formed a committee to explore running for governor in 2010.
Term limits bar Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm from seeking a third four-year term.
Hackel tells WWJ-AM, The Detroit News and WDIV-TV he'll spend the next few weeks meeting with community leaders about a possible gubernatorial bid.
Flint Mayor Don Williamson also is seeking the Democratic nomination, while Lt. Gov. John Cherry is expected to run, and ex-Michigan State head football coach George Perles says he might run.
Republican Attorney General Mike Cox also has formed an exploratory committee.
