Two fatal car accidents have been reported so far during the Memorial Day weekend.
Police are looking for the person who crashed a car into a tree early Sunday morning in Calhoun County.
Sheriff's deputies say they're looking for a 23-year-old Mexican man. They say he was heading northbound on Route 27 1/2 mile road when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree.. killing his passenger who was wearing a seat belt.
Police say the driver fled the scene.
They believe alcohol played a factor.
And in Ionia County, police attempted to rescue a man Sunday afternoon when he slammed his car into a tree.
Police say 28-year-old Brian Thelen of Portland was heading east on Tupper Lake Road in Danby Township just before 2 p.m.
Resuce workers had to use the jaws of life to get Thelen out but he died at the scene.
Alcohol was not suspected but Thelen did not wear a seat belt.
