Gas Prices Hit Another Record

Gas prices in Michigan have hit another record high.

The statewide average for regular unleaded was at $3.12 on Monday, more than 3 cents higher than the state's previous record average set July 27, according to AAA Michigan's survey of service stations.

Motorists are paying about 74 cents per gallon more than this time last year.

The Lansing area has the most expensive gasoline of Michigan's metropolitan areas at $3.17 per gallon, the auto club said.

In the Detroit area, the average is up 6.2 cents to $3.09.

Prices may rise even higher now that oil company BP has indefinitely shut down the nation's biggest oilfield in Alaska after finding a pipeline leak, cutting U.S. oil production by nearly 8 percent.
