Fallen Soldier Back Home

Nearly 60 years of waiting for the Hoenshell Family of Owosso, but after years of research, background checks, and working with the Army's identification team, Carl Hoenshell is back home.

Lt. Hoenshell left more than 60 years ago to fight in World War II. In 1944 three German planes chased his P-38 Lightning into the clouds above Bulgaria, never to be seen again.

The family though now has closure, as the remains of Carl were identified after an Army excavation last year near the Serbian-Bulgarian border.

A helicopter with a flag-draped casket carrying the remains and an Army uniform bearing his name were brought to Owosso on Friday.

The family will hold a funeral next Sunday.
