Stray animals left at Jackson County's Animal Shelter will no longer be sold for medical research.

Tuesday night, the county commission voted to end the sales.

Commissioners say pet owners and animal rights activists had been flooding the county phone lines with calls on the issue.

Just one commissioner voted to continue the sales.

Greg Wilson says the use of animals for research has led to important breakthroughs in human health.
