Gov. Jennifer Granholm reminded school principals from around the state on Friday that they are critical links in helping their schools achieve higher standards.
Most of the 216 principals from failing schools throughout the state met in Brighton on Friday.
It was part of the Principals' Academy designed to give intensive guidance for turning around their schools. Granholm says they are not alone is this fight.
The Governor says struggling schools usually have struggling communities. She is calling on businesses and faith-based organizations to help out.
The two-day academy will also help with implementing their schools plans and preparing staff for professional development.
