Jasmine Miles was killed crossing a stretch of Saint Joe Highway just East of Meadowview St. in Delta Township. Residents blame the speeding vehicles while police say total traffic could have played a role.

Sheriff Rick Jones of The Eaton County Sheriff’s Department says development in the area has forced traffic on to St. Joes Highway. As a result more cars run on the stretch of road where Miles was killed.

Miles, age 13, was apparently walking home from Waverly Middle School when she was hit by two vehicles while crossing the street.

Authorities say there have not been an unusual amount of speeding complaints.

Delta Township officials say they may ask the Eaton County Road Commission and State Police to review the posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour.
