Nursing Home Care

In a report issued this week the nursing home industry claims to have cut the turnover rate of its employees from a high of 89 percent to 40 percent. The industry contends if it can keep employees on the job longer, nursing home residents get better care and while the 40 percent rate is still too high, the report says this is an improvement.

The operators also say the abuse rate in nursing homes is down to two percent with most of that occurring as patient’s abuse each other. However as more baby boomers seek care and the federal government cutting back on aid, one spokesperson warns the nursing homes may be headed for the perfect storm.

The American Association of Retired Persons says nursing home care is at the top of its list of concerns, and it gives the homes a B grade for reducing abuse and making sure criminals are not providing that health care.
