A former Michigan State University researcher accused of staging the theft of pig bacteria is free on bond.
Scott Doree of Howell was in federal court in Grand Rapids Monday. He stood mute and an innocent plea was entered on his behalf. He is charged with making false statements to FBI agents.
Doree is accused of staging the theft to cover up his alleged misuse of $400,000 in federal grant money.
Court documents also say that Doree falsified some of his research results and even published some of them in a trade journal.
