MI Budget Cuts

State economists will announce next month that state revenue projections are down from earlier estimates. That means fewer dollars coming into state coffers, which could trigger another round of state service reductions.

State revenue sharing dollars could be sliced again and that could force the layoff of police and fire fighters around the state.

In East Lansing the city manager says over a dozen layoffs are already in the works and if the state cuts support even more, officials will have to dip into the $2.5 million rainy day fund to balance the budget.

The so-called revenue estimating conference is slated for May 15.
