Reduce, reuse, recycle. That's the message being delivered to seventh graders at Lansing's Otto Middle School on Earth Day.

Students learned about energy conservation and the benefits of alternative fuels in cars. State officials and General Motors were there to talk about what each sees as the future of energy efficiency.

GM officials say Lansing's operations focus on being environmentally sound and the message is being passed down to all of its employees. The company has started to move towards more fuel-efficient cars.

State officials say it's important to stay on the cutting edge of alternative fuels. But because of budget cuts, dollars designated for research have already been cut.

School officials say ecology and the human impact of the environment are incorporated into the curriculum.
