Breaking news Thursday morning... One of Iraq's most notorious insurgents is dead.
Abu-Musab Al Zarqawi was killed in an air raid north of Baghdad. Seven of his aides were also killed.
U.S. officials say they know he's dead because they got a first hand look at his face, and also confirmed his identity using his fingerprints.
Prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki says the strike on Al-Zarqawi was directly due to intelligence reports provided to Iraqi security forces by area residents.
The Al-Qaida militant led bloody campaigns of suicide bombings, and is believed to have personally beheaded some American hostages.
