Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth and Chief Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III will not be held in contempt of court for statements made at a press conference Monday. They were announcing the arrest of Dr. Charles Mercer Jr., alleging he killed his wife Sally back in 1968. Her cause of death was originally listed as Bulbar Polio, but was later labeled a homicide.
Mercer's attorney filed a motion saying they defied a court order suppressing information about the case. Wednesday, Judge Rosemarie Aquila rescinded that motion and amended the suppression adding it will be available to the public at Mercer's preliminary hearing June 15.
Mercer's attorney maintains the doctor did not kill his wife.
