On Sunday, April 6 at 2 a.m., we will be setting our clocks forward one hour.
That one-hour of lost sleep may not seem like much, but specialists at the Ingham Center for Sleep & Alertness say the week after Daylight Saving Time, there's a large increase in car accidents, and people have difficulty with hand-eye coordination, and decision-making.
But there are some simple steps to make up for lost time.
"Start getting up 15 min. earlier, then 30 min. earlier, then an hour earlier, but that also means you have to get to bed earlier too," Pamela Minkley, Ingham Center for Sleep & Alertness.
If you find you need a nap on Sunday, it's fine, so long as it's far enough from bedtime. That can disrupt your sleep later that night.
