Jackson Public School Cuts

There are more budget woes for the Jackson Public School District. As many as 52 jobs could be cut or reduced.

The district reportedly is facing a $1.7 million budget shortfall for the next school year.

Budget cuts are nothing new for Jackson Public Schools. The district has slashed about $13 million over the last three years.

The cuts are mostly due to rising costs, declining enrollment, and decreasing amounts in state aid.

The district could lay off 26 staff positions, 15 teachers, and a secretary. Ten paraprofessionals could be reduced to part-time hours.

Several public meetings are planned beginning next week.

The budget must be balanced by July 1.
