Law in the Military

There are dozens of law enforcement officers among the 1,500 Michigan military reservists called to active military duty.

But sheriff's departments across Michigan say the losses aren't hurting public safety.

Departments are rearranging schedules and shifting duties to make up for the losses.

A survey by the Michigan Sheriffs' Association found that at least 55 officers have been called to active duty.

Oakland County sheriff's Captain Mike McCabe says at one time, nine officer reservists were called up for military duty.

However, with 1,200 total employees, he says the department can make up for their absences with overtime and schedule changes.
