I used to live in eaton county and I am glad I am away from all this mess, what's the connection between raines and jones, well hello jones put raines there ,do you actually think that raines got there on his own? I think it is pretty sad that you have to stoop to this level of dirty politics, are the raines duo that affraid of losing to Reich?

You Raines fans are missing the point because you are too busy defending him...the point is it is illegal to steal anything. the election is over...but we may be stuck with a criminal in office...no one should know this more than our sherriff..now add to that this is tampering with the election process...if he and his darling dutiful wife are found guilty...run them out of office tomorrow. by the way has anyone considered he may have sped off to dump the signs he had stolen?

Recently, I witnessed a gentleman (wearing a Reich for Sheriff shirt) in the Dimondale area. He pulled a Mike Raines sign out of the ground, threw it on the ground and put a Reich sign in its place. How is this okay? I think you should be watching your own people instead of watching your opponent. We as Eaton County residents spoke, "We do not want you as our Sheriff!!!!"

Talk about bending the law. At the farmers market in Dimondale recently I asked the, Elect Reich people about the dog in the SUV with the engine running down the block with the Reich banner on it. I was told that's ok because it is a German Shepherd inside. Da! If a normal citizen was caught doing this it would probably involve animal control, the police and be all over the news. Reich didn't get my vote.

I heard that there was something like 150 signs in question here. So if Reich recieved all 150 votes he still would not have come close to winning. Also what is the big deal about the connection between the Jones's and the Raines's? People know people especially in smaller communities and in the same line of work.

For those of you who feel that you want to play "jury" and decide that someone is guilty before hearing all the facts or evidence, you are all going to feel pretty pathetic when the "sh*t hits the fan" and Reich is proven to be a liar! If people use the incompetent logic in every day life that you are using to make a decision about these accusations then no wonder Michigan is in the condition it is. Do us competent and logical citizens a favor and leave the state...better yet the country!

All I can say is we are talking about politicians and if anyone thinks that either party would not do something wrong is neive. I am sure both have done things that probably arent acceptable. The point is, is that it is not about what happens but how we handle it. I think arresting someone for a sign being taken is a little much and I am sure if someone really watched the opponent that they would see things that he is also doing that are not right. Would he want someone to start watching everything he does because thats what he has just set himself up for some person to do. He should have gone to them directly to handle it without the media if he truly has good intentions. Remember those without sin cast the first stone.

It's fortunate that the prosecutor will actually review the facts of the case before making a decision on whether any charges will be filed. He won't base his decision after reading a news article, like nearly everyone here has already done....

Do I hear recall election? This is so typical of the good ol boys.

Posted by: todd Location: Charlotte on Aug 5, 2008 at 07:57 PM
First we don't pay him enough and he complains about that, then he needs to break the law to win his reelection bid. Typical politician.

Posted by: Kate Location: Grand Ledge on Aug 5, 2008 at 07:54 PM
I saw Rep. Jones taking Raines to the "Victory Party". It's not much of a victory if you need to cheat to win. Come on, can't we do better than this for sheriff.

Posted by: Kris Location: MI on Aug 5, 2008 at 07:51 PM
OKAY i see that these signs are really the CLINCHER when voting. If someone doesnt know who to vote for by the time VOTING DAY approaches, then those Signs arent really gonna help. A responsible voter is going to know who they will vote for and it is up to them to do the research. Those measly signs out in everyones yard arent really going to make you vote for someone. All it tells ya is how the residents of that particular home are supposedly going to vote.

Ok people, can we just wait until the facts are completely in before we hang the Sheriff's wife?? I sure think it's strange that it just "happens" to be the opponent himself who says he "caught" them....why are so many so quick to believe negative before even having the facts, which is exactly what Jeff Sauter is paid to do before issuing a warrant.

Posted by: Dave Location: Delta Twp on Aug 5, 2008 at 06:10 PM
This is scummy politics!!!! If they can't win races fairly we don't want them as to be our public officials let alone Sheriff. A Sheriff is someone that should be upholding the law not bending it and breaking it to do what is best for them. She is a Legislative Assistant for State Rep. Rick Jones', I wonder if he approves of such tasteless behavior seeing he fully endoreses Raines and has his wife is on payroll. I guess we will see if she still has a job after this. This is disgraceful!

Posted by: Jeff Location: Charlotte on Aug 5, 2008 at 05:40 PM
Ummm...if Sheriff Mike Raines Drove his wife in thier van to pull yard signs and then left at a high rate of speed from the sceen leaving his wife standing there...why would they not both be charged? The fact that Jeff Sauter is dragging his heels on issueing arrest warrrant or warrants smells high of the good ol boy system Sauter and Raines Flurish in!
