GM Plant Opens

Tuesday marked the beginning of the new Lansing Regional Stamping Center, the hub for most of the metal production in the area.

General Motors officials are calling it the second jewel to the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant. The center is considered the most modern facility of its kind in North America.

The stamping plant will produce metal for the Cadillac CTS and Cadillac SRX. It has the capacity to deliver more than 500 pieces of metal an hour.

Union leaders say this opening shows the commitment GM has in the Lansing community. They also say it's a sign proving GM will bring another product to the area.

The Delta Township Assembly Plant is slated to open for production in 2006 and the stamping center has the ability to produce metal for that facility.
