Triple-A Michigan says Monday that statewide gasoline prices rose a penny from last week to their highest levels of the year.
The auto club's weekly survey of 300 gas stations statewide found the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded was $1.77 a gallon. That's up 42.3 cents from a year ago.
Average prices in the Detroit area were a $1.72 a gallon -- the same as last week and up 41.5 cents from a year ago.
Prices remain at their highest level since Sept. 2001 -- when the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington took place.
