An F1 tornado touched down in Leoni Township a few days ago destroying homes and property in its path. But residents in the area didn't receive any type of warning ahead of time.
According to the National Weather Service there were no signs of tornados on their radars. And they also did not receive any calls about a sighting. The Jackson County Sheriff's department is in charge of sounding tornado sirens. Captain Kevin Stellingworth says they were waiting for the National Weather Service to issue a warning before turning on the alarms.
No one was injured in the storm. But the tornado did cause destruction for six miles of Leoni Township.
