Seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree-- that's what 32-year-old Lansing schools employee Carrie Alice Denbow is facing now, stemming from what authorities say was a sexual relationship she had with a 15-year-old male student.

"If these charges are true, this is a serious and gross breach of trust between a staff person and student," says Lansing school board president Hugh Clarke, Jr.

Clarke says Denbow's been a Lansing Schools employee since January 2001, working as a student assistance provider at the Hill Center.

"The victim was one of those [students]," Clarke says.

Denbow was arraigned Thursday on those seven felony charges and an additional misdemeanor for domestic assault and battery.

The charges say she'd been involved with the boy from January 2006 until December 2007.

Throughout the arraignment, Denbow rolled her eyes and seemed shocked she was even there.

Some of the charges allege that Denbow had sexual relations with the student on school property at Hill, as well as at MSU, in Delta Township and at another Lansing address.

"There's cause for concern these things were taking place in the building," Clarke says.

Denbow's family was in the courtroom, including her father, Terry Denbow, Vice President of University Relations for MSU.

Denbow has been on paid administrative leave from the school district since december. Clarke says the district is consulting attorneys to find out their options.

"If these allegations are true, you can't justify it," he says.

Denbow is out right now on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond.

She's restricted from having any unsupervised contact with minors and cannot step on school property.

Her next court appearance is July 25th.

She is very likely innocent. She somehow angered the kid and he got even by making up stuff. This could very well be possible. I hope the rest of you will look at other possibilities.

She was also employed at Meridian Professional Psychological Consultants in Okemos, as a child therapist. It should also be told that the director, Dr. Gunnings, is good friends with none other than Stewart Dunnings. Interesting that her other employ was never mentioned in the media....

The older mature adult should take the blame. She abused her position of trust in this adolescent boys life and took advantage of him. He is not even close to being fully mature or having an understanding of the repercussions of their actions, she on the other hand is a 32 year old woman. That is disturbing. Almost all women mature faster than us men. As teenagers they are already more mature, and the age gap here is criminal and she should face the charges, and if found guilty, be sent to federal prison as a pedophile.

Looks like to me he enjoyed it for how long of period? He didn't have any trouble until she hit him,and then runs home to mama saying what a bad lady did to me.Lets face it it is not right ,but the teacher should not take all the blame when it went on for that long of time period. He is old enough to know better.Ask yourself when was your first time and how old were you !!!!!

What happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'? Let me play devil's advocate - her career as a teacher, whether found innocent or guilty, is probably over. Lets say she is found innocent - what consequences are there for the punk who made the false allegations?

Could everyone please remember that she is not and was not a teacher.

This is disgusting. She preyed on a young male, a ward of the court, that was at least 17 to 19 years younger than she is. She was in a position of trust and should have been protecting him, not taking advantage of him. How can they give her Personal Recognizance Bond. Ingham County - what a joke.

Hey I know the dating world is tough, and a good man is difficult to find, BUT OMG! THIS is DISGUSTING!This is a KID, and it is ILLEGAL! This is a sexual Predator, and The USA needs to start treating these women the same as if a MAN did this to a 15 yr old. PUT em in PRISON, and make them register as a sex offender! What?is it open season for teachers to pick out a child for sex? It is sickening and these type of people need alot of counseling! While they are behind bars.

  • Posted By: BarbaraI'm surprised by the news media who are shocked that he died after having passed a physical. There are instances of people having heart attacks as they leave the doctors office, have been given a good bill of health. Some coverage of the event seems appropriate but now I am ready for it to stop. Ok I wasn't a fan. Never was. But enough is enough. There is other news out there. There were other deaths of famous people that week, alot in fact. They got a notice in the news and that was appropriate. Yes was more controversial as was Elvis and yes they both got more time, but it bothers me that all of the national coverage that night was of his death as if there wasn't a war or other news of note.
  • Posted By: Entertaiment BigotSorry Becky if we busted his chops but I'm one of those Hollywood Bigots. I do not idolize anyone in the entertainment business more than I would my own Parents. So I can truly say he never had an impact on me. It is our culture and media that seems who decide who we should idolize and I'm sorry but I don't buy into that mentality. I didn't cry over Elvis and I'm not shedding a tear for Mr. Jackson. I didn't cry over Lady Di. To say he reached everyone in the world may be true but that doesn't make me a bigot just because I don't idolize or mourn him.
  • Posted By: BeckyI feel that you are all insenstive bigots. Excuse the past years...you have to look at what this man meant to the country as a whole. When is the last time you heard of an artist that reached damn near everyone in the WORLD regardless of their race? Elvis didn't even have that much of an impact. He is a human and has his mistakes. Only God can judge him and to say such nasty things about this man after his passings is plain disgusting.
  • Posted By: blablaOk he's dead, now can we read some real news
  • Posted By: jonI just wonder where is michael now?
  • Posted By: sandyBill, your right not Farrah or Ed but a pedophile, his attorneys will be looking for new jobs now cant live off mike now.
  • Posted By: BillWhat GREAT comments and all so true. How anyone can worship a pedophile is beyond me. To bad about Farrah, but you sure don't hear anything about her.
  • Posted By: BillToo bad so sad, NOT. Children of L.A, can now sleep easier. The courts don't have to waste money on him anymore and his so called friends will have to find someone else they can be a leach to. I remember when their show first appeared and it was fun to watch. But as time goes by the fame has destroyed him as well as all the damage he has done to his own body for no reason but to be wanted even more by the public. His attorney summed it up great.
  • Posted By: King of WarpOk, the immediate response is I'm shocked. Only the media and elite will sensationalize a story to make the guy out to be somebody to be worshipped. Everyone is now over Princess Di. So, pay your respects, honor his talent and keep the other crap out of the news. We don't need to hear over and over again about his drug use, child molestation problems. Good-Bye Michael Jackson now "Beat It"
  • Posted By: MarkThis is pathetic. Call me a dork, or a hater, or whatever, but this is seriously ridiculous. Yeah, an influential musician is dead at a young age. But do half of the headlines on this page have to be about Michael Jackson? There are four on here about him out of 8 listed.
  • Posted By: CarrieBS! I don't buy into this "sadness" stuff. I think we have a bunch of band-wagon jumpers!! Michael was a HUGE part of my generation's world (growing up in the 80s) and every chick LOVED him so from that sense, ok...it is weird to see him gone. BUT....he was a "has been" through the recent years (since like the mid 90s?) and so many people did NOT like him because of his life-style and mannerisms, etc. Notice his upcoming tour was in a whole other COUNTRY because he wouldn't make it here. But yet, all of a sudden, he is LOVED by all? GIVE ME A BREAK! I am NOT buying it. BAND-WAGON jumpers. Spare me.
