Delphi's plan is to lay off 8,500 salaried workers, to close 21 of 29 plants, and to ask the bankruptcy judge to cancel their union contract.
A judge will hear their proposal May 9th in court.
This latest decision by Delphi could well set off a strike, and because the company is so intimately linked with General Motors, that could shut things down at the GM facilities in mid-Michigan.
The union president tells us Lansing Grand River's Cadillacs depend on Delphi for about 60 percent of their parts. They keep about a 3-day supply on hand. Once that's used up, the line is shut down.
